Hero cube! - Gameplay prototyping module

Gameplay Prototyping was a 3rd year module which focused on showcasing proof of concept. As designers, it was important to convey a game concept via concept artwork and sketches; but also through prototypes and greyboxing. The module tasked us to create a small game prototype in Unity, focusing on showcasing basic mechanics and gameplay flow so that a dev team could review and understand the key features of the project.

As somebody who had, at the time, never used Unity before, this proved to be a big challenge for me. As such, I brought back an old project from first year that was made in Python. This provided a solid starting point with established gameplay objectives and ideas; I was able to then transfer from 2D into 3D and continue developing its core concepts and gameplay features. Knowing what I wanted to do with the project in terms of design and gameplay made it a lot easier to do some of the smaller programming steps at the start, and made the whole process more manageable. My lecturer was very pleased with the base concept and how it grew.

The project was split into three sections: documentation, project and reflective post-mortem video. The documentation received an A+ and follows the process and growth of the project from day one all the way through to submission.

It most accurately showcases the programming and design challenges and developments.
